Treatments Available With Dental Implants

Whether our Stratford, CT patients are suffering from a single missing teeth or a full arch of missing teeth, there is a treatment with dental implants available for their needs.

For every treatment for missing teeth involving dental bridges and dentures, there is a better treatment using dental implants that can be performed instead. Dental implants are a great alternative to these other treatments because only implants can provide a treatment that is permanent and comfortable. While dental implants provide a great solution to missing teeth on their own, they can also be used with other forms of teeth restoration, providing even more treatment options for our patients. Today. Dr. Jeffrey Hoos is blogging from Stratford, CT to describe the many different restorations that are available to you when you choose to use dental implants for your teeth restoration treatment.

A Treatment for Every Need

No matter what your situation is, if you are suffering from missing teeth, dental implants can help restore your smile. There are many different possible treatments that can be performed with implants. Some of these include:

Single Tooth Restoration

When restoring a single missing tooth, an implant fixture is placed in the empty spot left by your missing tooth. During the recovery period after this procedure, a process called osseointegration occurs. Osseointegration is the process of the implant fixture being accepted by the jaw bone and surrounding gums as a natural part of your anatomy. Once this process is finished and the implant is fully healed, an abutment is attached to the fixture and the replacement tooth attached to that, completing the restoration.

Multiple Teeth Restoration

When restoring multiple missing teeth, it is possible to perform a single tooth restoration for each missing tooth. However, if you have multiple missing teeth that are all lined up beside each other, an implant supported dental bridge might be a better treatment for your needs. For this method, at least two implant fixtures are placed, one for the first tooth in the row and one for the last tooth in the row. Once healed, an abutment is attached to each implant and the bridge is connected, completing the restoration.

Full Arch Restoration

Much like with multiple teeth restorations, a single tooth restoration can be performed for every single tooth in an arch. However, this method can be very expensive and it may be better to go with an implant supported overdenture instead. For this method, four to six implant fixtures are placed along the arch. Once healed, an abutment is attached to each implant and the overdenture connected, completing the restoration.
